Working with children and young people

In the summer term 2005 I met, on several occasions, a class of Year 4 children at a London primary school. The project - the effect of a long-term art project on literacy- covered papermaking, code making, designing symbols and writing poetry. http://www.octobergallery.co.uk/education/index.shtml
During a week in August 2005 I ran 45 minute workshops for children at Colchester Museum during which they created an illuminated letter.
In July 2006 I participated in Colchester Borough Council's "Fun in the Sun" at Highwoods Country Park and taught children how to make paper from recycled materials and pressed wild flowers.
In May 2008 and May 2009 I taught around 100 12-13 year olds at Lakenheath Middle School, Feltwell how to make small illuminated letters. This formed part of their UK Day in which the American students learnt about British history, traditions and customs.

Here is some of their positive feedback included in thank you letters following the 2009 day: "I wish you could teach us everyday", "I enjoyed ur class because it was cool", "You were an amazing speaker and made it sooo fun for us to do the calligraphy....it wasn't even boring when you told us about the history", "It was pretty cool that you could put gold on it by transferring it. Please come again" and finally ....
"Thank you so much for coming to our school and showing/letting us make a calligraphy letter. It was loads of fun! You are a great teacher! I thought the part where we had to blow hot air on the cards was funny! I really enjoyed your class because I could express myself by decorating the letter"
I look forward to visiting Lakenheath Middle School in May 2010.
Family Learning
From 2005 - 2007 I was a family learning tutor for Suffolk County Council, teaching parents of primary school children how to support their children's literacy and ICT needs at home. I have CRB clearance at enhanced level.
In 2009 I taught a Family Arts course for Norfolk Family Learning.
