Occasional day workshops

Courses are suitable for beginners and improvers.  You will study a calligraphic hand each term which will be applied to complete an individual project of your choice.

I am a qualified calligraphy teacher and an Accredited tutor of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society.  I have a Cert Ed. for teaching in post compulsory education.  You can, therefore, expect a high standard of support and tuition.

Quality of teaching.  In April 2007 an observation of teaching and learning at a Saturday workshop graded the calligraphy lesson as "Outstanding".  This was verified by the West Suffolk College panel.

Calligraphy Workshops

I have taught adults calligraphy at "The Works", Beccles, The Town Hall, Ipswich (Ipart festival), The Ipswich Institute, Ipswich and in March and Whittlesey for the Fenland Museum Service.

I also teach privately at day workshops during which learners can spend the whole day exploring and learning.  A maximum of 10/12 students attend to allow me to give individual help and assistance.

Working with children and young people

London project

In the summer term 2005 I met, on several occasions, a class of Year 4 children at a London primary school.  The project - the effect on literacy of a long-term art project - covered papermaking, code making, designing symbols and writing poetry.  http://www.octobergallery.co.uk/education/index.shtml

During a week in August 2005 I ran 45 minute workshops for children at Colchester Museum during which they created an illuminated letter.

In July 2006 I participated in Colchester Borough Council's "Fun in the Sun" at Highwoods Country Park and taught children how to make paper from recycled materials and pressed wild flowers.

Family Learning

I am a family learning tutor for Suffolk County Council, teaching parents of primary school children how to support their children's literacy and ICT needs at home.  I have CRB clearance at enhanced level.
